Students from the Alice Springs community recently participated in the 2006 Total Look Fashion Parade at the Desert Lantern Restaurant

Charles Darwin University (CDU) Alice Springs Campus hosted the 2006 Total Look Fashion Parade at the Desert Lantern Restaurant recently.

The evening showcased talents of 20 CDU hairdressing students – eight who are completing traineeships and 12 studying CDU VET hairdressing and attending schools around Alice Springs.

The competition covered day, evening and fantasy wear, with fashion and hair styles ranging from conservative through to the extreme.

The event was organised by hairdressing lecturer (Alice Springs), Denise Corey to showcase local talent.

“Students came up with very creative ideas with excellent colour work. They showed amazing creativity and ability,” she said.

Wella Products Australia and local hairdressing salons Headlines Hair & Beauty and Sylvester’s Studio co-sponsored the event.

Audio visual provider Staging Connections and The Alice Springs Police Crime Prevention and Reduction Unit provided lighting and sound facilities.

The fashion parade was attended by around 100 guests from CDU, students from across Alice Springs, local industry representatives and family.

Technical consultant (SA) for Wella Australia, Shaun Ferguson, flew to Alice Springs to judge the event and says the students excelled at their craft.

”The standard was brilliant and I was really impressed,” he said. ”These girls are almost up to the HIS (industry level) competition standard and that is a great compliment.”

Local hairdresser Liz Abotomey was also complimentary: “These kids should pick up hairdressing because the talent is there,” she said.
