AIM training comes to Alice

Charles Darwin University (CDU) has delivered short course workshops on workplace issues for the first time in Alice Springs.

Covering common workplace issues of time, people and risk management, the one and two day courses attracted clients from a wide range of industries.

An alliance with the Australian Institute of Management (AIM) has allowed CDU to deliver AIM endorsed short courses, with three being delivered in Alice Springs. A fourth in-house course was also offered.

Local business was keen to learn from CDU’s expertise, with the delivery of a tailored in-house risk management course at the Central Land Council.

Peter Vincent, CDU short course co-ordinator, says response to the courses has been strong.

”Dealing with difficult customers, managing time in the workplace and managing risk are generic issues many people face,” he said. ”Attendees of our courses are from many different industries, but face similar challenges.”

Attendee Amy Robinson, from the Alice Springs Hospital says the course she attended, The New Supervisor, was constructive.

“Instead of tap dancing around issues, I can take back constructive feedback to the work environment,” she said.

General manager of the Central Land Council, Bruce Nystrom, negotiated a tailored one day in-house risk management course with CDU. ”There are few repeat programs in Alice Springs so we jumped at the opportunity,” he said.

More courses will be offered in Alice Springs early next year.
