Darwin Youth Orchestra sails over sea and land

The Darwin Youth Orchestra (DYO) has been busy rehearsing for their concert on 20 September, and their up coming Top End tour in late September.

On Wednesday the DYO performs with the Young Voices of Melbourne, one of Australia’s finest youth choirs, in Top End Voyage.

They will also be joined in concert by one of the Centre for Youth Music’s senior choirs, the Pandanus Performers.

Both ensembles feature talented young musicians ranging in age from eleven to 18 years, and both groups will be performing works inspired by the sea.

The program includes Pirates of the Caribbean theme music for orchestra and works from Turn on the Open Sea, a song cycle for choir and orchestra.

Entry is by gold coin donation, with the concert starting at 7.30pm in the CDU Theatre, Building 17, Casuarina Campus. All are welcome.

Top End Voyage highlights the start of the DYO’s NT tour commencing Tuesday 26 September.

The Orchestra will perform in Jabiru, Katherine, Pine Creek and Bachelor. Their final concert will be held at CDU’s Palmerston Campus on Saturday 30 September from 11am.

These five one-hour concerts, free to the public, will feature a wide range of exciting repertoire including, The William Tell Overture, Jupiter from the Planets, and the theme music from Pirates of the Caribbean.
