Charles Darwin University (CDU), with the Department of Employment, Education and Training (DEET), are again showing their support of lifelong learning for all Territorians with Adult Learners Week 2006.
The Northern Territory leg of Adult Learners’ Week 2006 will commence tomorrow, Friday 1 September and is focused on establishing an awareness of mature age apprenticeships and traineeships.
DEET is promoting the Adult Learners’ Week (ALW) national theme, ‘A pathway to adult learning in your community and workplace’, with an emphasis on encouraging mature age Territorians to take on an apprenticeship or traineeship.
CDU’s academic coordinator of the Teaching Learning Development Group, Terry Clark, commented on the week’s hectic schedule: “The Administrator of the Northern Territory, the Honorable Ted Egan AO and Ms Nerys Evans, will host an official launch of ALW 2006 at Government House.
“His Honour will also present the award for the NT Adult Educator of the Year, an award which recognises outstanding achievement by an individual involved in adult education in the Northern Territory,” he said.
Adult Learners' Week in Australia is part of an international festival of adult learning and provides an opportunity for informed discussion about the current provision of adult learning and to consider what improvements are needed to take Australia forward.
Adult Learners Week 2006 will take place from 1-8 September.
