Charles Darwin University’s (CDU) International Office recently took part in several student recruitment activities throughout Indonesia. CDU was represented at education expos held in Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya, Semarang, Balikpapan and Bali.
CDU was also represented at the annual dinner hosted by the Indonesia Australia Alumni Association in Jakarta. This event brought together 300 alumni, and was attended by The Australian Ambassador to Indonesia, Mr Bill Farmer AO.
Fiona Richards, manager, International Marketing and Recruitment explains, “These expos allow us to not only provide information directly to potential students, but also build a greater recognition of CDU within the country. The increased presence of the International Office at expos like these, together with the work being undertaken by academics and researchers throughout Indonesia, is starting to create a greater recognition of the benefits that CDU has to offer potential students.”
One of the expos attended was the information sessions in both Jakarta and Bali run by AusAID to help the current group of Australian development scholarship awardees make their final decision as to which university they will bring their scholarship to in order to study in Australia. CDU was well received particularly by students from more regional areas in Indonesia including Kupang and Flores.
To capitalise on this interest from students in regional Indonesia, the International Office plans to participate in a Study in Australia exhibition in Eastern Indonesia in November 2006. This exhibition is jointly run by Australian Education International and Austrade, and is in addition to their annual event run in March in the larger cities.
