Katherine Campus continues winning streak at Darwin Show

Juvenile handler: Skye McFarlane

Junior judge over 19yrs: Emma Phillips, Anna Elliott and Daniel Blundstone

Charles Darwin University’s (CDU) Katherine Campus continued their winning form when they travelled to the Royal Darwin Show last week (27-29 July).

Hot on the heels of success at the Katherine Show, nine Katherine Campus students and lecturer, Tony Jensen, travelled the 300 kilometres to Darwin along with twelve of their award-wining Brahman stud.

The team were successful, winning junior champion female and reserve and senior champion male. More notably were the personal student achievements in the classes of junior judging and junior and senior handlers.

Students also took out top awards in the juvenile and senior handler class and also champion junior judge.

CDU lecturer Tony Jensen was delighted with the success of both the cattle and the students, saving his greatest praise for the students: "The handler and judging classes are a great opportunity for students to be able to showcase their knowledge and skills in activities that are directly related to their fields of study.

"Their ability to show the cattle goes without saying but at the end of the day, a good looking cow can basically judge itself, whereas with the handler and judging classes it's all about the students,” he said.
