The Multilingual Broadcasting Council of the NT (MBCNT) is celebrating 25 years of multilingual broadcasting in the Northern Territory this weekend.
To celebrate this landmark occasion, MBCNT will be holding a celebration this Sunday 25 June at 10.30 am at the Malak Community Room, Malak Place, Malak.
Multilingual broadcasters’ present 25 speciality community language programs each week on the CDU Casuarina campus based radio station Territory FM, which broadcasts Territory wide.
The weekly broadcasts include youth, talk and music programs that cover a wide range of ethnic groups that reflect the Territory’s multi cultural community. These include programs such as Sounds of Sri Lanka, African Beat, Filipino-Australian Variety program, Friendly India and a Thai-Lao program.
MBCNT also assists with training broadcasters and acts as a coordinating agency for all ethnic broadcasters in the NT. It also plays an active role in promoting the development of multicultural radio which helps preserve the linguistic and cultural heritage of ethnic groups throughout the community.
According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics 24% of the Australian population were born overseas.
All broadcasters are welcome to attend the 25th birthday celebration. There will be lunch, along with the presentation of the Youth video and plenty of small surprises, so be there and join the fun.
