A Pharmacology lecturer known for her clinical knowledge and high standards has been recognised by her students.

Dr S. Himani Kariyawasam, Senior Lecturer in Applied Pharmacology, was voted the best lecturer by the Pharmacy students at the first Pharmacy Ball organised by the Top End Pharmacy Students Association (TEPSA).

The students presented her with a miniature pestle and mortar award.

Dr Kariyawasam is unit co-ordinator of Pharmacology and some Therapeutics units. She has worked at the university for two years.

A member of TEPSA, Amber Milne, said students appreciated Dr Kariyawasam's commitment and knowledge.

"She has very good clinical knowledge and expects the best from everybody and we respect that," she said.

Dr Kariyawasam said she was flattered to receive the award.

"It was lovely to get the feedback from students, but all the lecturers have contributed to their success," she said.
