Two Sky City chefs have been recognised for their talents at a national cooking competition held in Melbourne last week.

Aaron Elemy and Benjamin Morriss have returned from the Nestlé Golden Chefs Hat competition collecting three awards for their culinary talents.

The chefs, who recently completed apprenticeships at Charles Darwin University, won a bronze medal for an Entrée, a silver medal for a main meal and a bronze medal for a dessert.

Organised by the Australian Culinary Federation and sponsored by Nestle, the competition saw more than 90 apprentices and chefs from across Australia compete for the awards.

The CDU team produced a three-course meal from a mystery box of ingredients and were judged on their table work, organization and hygiene, presentation and appearance of the final product, taste flavours and skills in cooking and turnaround.

CDU Chef and Team Leader Mr Bharat Desai accompanied the duo and said judges were very impressed with the taste, flavour and method of cooking used.

Apprentice Chef Benjamin Morriss said he enjoyed the event and was thrilled to win the awards.

"It was great to compare the standards of other apprentices from around the country," he said.
