CDU’s research activity in central Australia is being boosted with the introduction of advanced information skills workshops at the Charles Darwin University Alice Springs campus.

It coincides with the recent appointment of Alice Springs-based Dr Rolf Gerritsen, CDU’s Research Leader, Central Australia.

Some 11 participants attended the first workshop last week, led by Casuarina-based Research Services Coordinator Jayshree Mamtora with researchers, lecturers and PhD and Masters students attending.

The workshop is geared towards first-time and experienced researchers to enhance their information-seeking skills.

Participants were introduced to key information resources, using electronic databases, EndNote referencing software and other specialist library resources.

Dr Rolf Gerritsen said Ms Mamtora’s experience was valued at the campus.

“She is well recognised within the CDU community for her knowledge of library resources and has a good understanding of challenges unique to regional researchers having worked at the Palmerston campus,” he said.

Ms Mamtora said the feedback from her presentation was encouraging.

“Researchers have embraced the workshops and have asked for a refresher course in six months and we expect to make this a common event,” she said.
