Charles Darwin University advises students to be on the alert for a bogus debt collector believed to be operating in the Darwin area.
Anyone who is approached by someone purporting to be a debt collector from the University should report the matter immediately to the police by telephoning 131444 and quote 3504046.
A CDU spokesperson said the university only employs debt collectors providing written prior notice has been issued to the debtor.
Police are now investigating the situation.
The spokesperson said CDU was taking measures to advise students to be cautious of dealing with anyone claiming to be a debt collector on behalf of CDU.
”If you are approached please notify police as soon as possible to assist this investigation.”
