CDU's Flying Professor Service

Charles Darwin University (CDU) recently registered a trade mark for a ‘Flying Professor Service’.

The service will seek to emulate and advance the underlying philosophy of the Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia in terms of its facilitating access and opportunities.

It will also ensure the responsiveness to student interests and needs as CDU delivers courses throughout the Northern Territory and beyond.

Executive director of business development, Dr Claire Baxter, commented on the flying professor service and what the initiative will mean for CDU and the Territory.

“It will have both ‘fly out’ and ‘fly in’ components, accompanied by various inter-university collaborative alliances in ways which will ensure academic quality and cost-effective responses in the offering of courses,” she said.

“The ‘flying in’ and ‘flying out’ will involve both workplace and campus based teaching and assessment.

“The service overall will build on, be a part of, and complement various elements of the whole range of means by which teaching and learning are actively facilitated by CDU,” she added.

The Flying Professor Service will provide communication and education assistance to people who live, work and travel in regional and remote areas of the Northern Territory and Australia.
