CDU students off to Northern Uni Games

30 Charles Darwin University students will travel to the Northern University Games on the Sunshine Coast 2-6 July 2006 to compete in AFL, mixed netball and women’s volleyball.

The games will be held in several towns including Caloundra, Maroochydore, Kawana and Mooloolaba. Over 2000 students from New South Wales, Queensland and the Northern Territory are expected to participate this year.

“It is a fantastic opportunity for new students to engage in student life, whilst representing their universities and playing their favourite sports,” said Daniel Tackenberg, AUS Manager, North Region.

20 sports will be contested, including baseball, basketball, hockey, lawn bowls, netball, rugby union, soccer, squash, surfing, tennis, ultimate frisbee and volleyball.

Students will be competing for a chance to be part of the Australian University Games, which will be held in Adelaide in September.

All three CDU teams have been training for the last six weeks and are busy trying to raise the $900 it cost for each student to participate - a huge expense for a student.
