Two shaved heads are better than one: Amander Dimmock and Geoff Reid show off their new hairstyles
Staff from Charles Darwin University (CDU) participated in the World’s Greatest Shave event and changed their hairstyles for a charitable cause.
The Leukaemia Foundation’s annual fundraiser took place last week and included activities around CDU’s Casuarina campus.
Four staff members from CDU’s Teaching Learning and Development Unit were given a new look by CDU hairdressing student Jane Marshall, who donated her time to support the event.
Zac Watt was the first to undergo transformation, opting for vertical rainbow stripes. Jo Gould agreed to a horizontal rainbow design, starting with silver at her roots “…so she could see what she looked like when she turned grey”, she said.
Elisabet Reiten-Griffith had originally decided on an all-over blue effect, but her colourful colleagues persuaded her to go for a quirky rainbow stripe on one side.
There was a lot of laughter and friendly taunting, especially when Amander Dimmock finally sat down in the hairdresser’s chair.
But Amander was the bravest of all and had her curly locks shaved off.
Another brave staff member was enrolment officer Geoff Reid, who shaved his head and beard in the Student Information Centre.
CDU staff raised more than $2000 for the Leukaemia Foundation, money which will help patients and families living with leukaemia, lymphomas, myeloma and blood-related disorders.
