NIDA graduate and talented performer Samantha Young has won the Charles Darwin University Arts Award at the NT Young Achiever Awards 2012.
Ms Young was also named the winner of the Channel Nine Overall Young Achiever of the Year and the Northern Territory Government Career Achievement Award.
She received the CDU award from Pro Vice-Chancellor of the Faculty of Engineering, Health, Science and the Environment Professor Sue Carthew at a gala presentation dinner at the weekend.
The young actor and director has performed and devised her work in the dramatic arts nationally and internationally. She has performed at the Belvoir Theatre Company, Sydney Theatre Company, Darwin Theatre Company and The Royal Opera House - Covent Garden London.
Within the Darwin community Ms Young has advocated for youth arts, concentrating on mentoring young actors. Through her work with local schools, she has encouraged her students to attend theatre, audition for shows and engage in conversation regarding the national arts scene.
As the winner of the Charles Darwin University Arts Award, Samantha received $2000 thanks to TIO and a magnificent trophy.
The annual awards program rewards and encourages the positive achievements of young Territorians between the ages of 14 and 26. The Charles Darwin University Arts Award celebrates the creative practices of young people.
