Bakers to share sweet smell of success

CDU’s chef lecturers will be on hand to share their kitchen secrets on Open Day.

Nationally and internationally recognised chefs and bakers will be in action at Charles Darwin University on Sunday.

Baking Facilitator Robert Schwerdt and his entire crew of chef lecturers will share their wealth of knowledge, skills and passion for the culinary arts during interactive demonstrations at Open Day.

“CDU Cookery and Bakery graduates are recognised around Australia as some of the best trained craftsmen in their field,” Mr Schwerdt said.

Open Day will give the general public an insight into what VET students in cookery and bakery learn in CDU’s kitchen classrooms.

Visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy some hands-on learning as they build their own crepes, put their cake decorating skills to work and enjoy demonstrations in laksa preparation.

Children are also in for a sweet treat, with the chance to get involved in some messy kitchen fun during Muffin Madness sessions.

The lip-smacking fun will continue as the Hospitality contingent of CDU’s Vocational Education and Training division takes the stage with the Mixology 101 display.

During this interactive display, participants will polish their bar skills as some of the industry’s best share their secrets about complementary flavours, mixing techniques and beverage presentation.

The CDU Open Day is on Sunday 26 August 2012 between 10am and 3pm. For a full program, visit: www.cdu.edu.au/openday/program.html.
