The Northern Territory’s Charles Darwin University (CDU) has made a remarkable entry into the world’s top 400 universities.
The youngest university in Australia, CDU has been ranked number 306 in the world in the prestigious Times Higher Education World University Rankings.
Times Higher Education also places CDU at number 13 in the rankings of Australian universities.
The rankings are based on data provided by Thomson-Reuters and take into consideration excellence in teaching, research and knowledge transfer, and the international outlook of the university.
CDU Vice-Chancellor Professor Barney Glover said CDU’s national and international rankings were enormously gratifying given the university’s size, relative youth and its location.
“This is a fabulous endorsement of years of great work in research, in particular, which is often cited by other researchers and also reflects the high productivity of our staff and postgraduate students,” Professor Glover said.
“This puts CDU firmly within the top 4% of world universities and the Northern Territory should be very proud of that.”
He said the challenge for CDU as a small regional university was to maintain the ranking in the competitive international system. “This is our challenge for the future,” Professor Glover said.
