CDU author in running for National Year of Reading collection

CDU Emeritus Professor in History Alan Powell

Two books written by Charles Darwin University Emeritus Professor in History Alan Powell have made it on to the shortlist for the 2012 National Year of Reading collection.

Either The Shadow’s Edge: Australia’s Northern War (CDU Press 2007) or Far Country: A Short History of the Northern Territory (CDU Press 2009) could be included in the eight-book collection, which will contain one title representing each state and territory.

The decision on which books are included in the collection rests with Australia’s reading public, who have been invited to vote for the title they think best represents their state or territory.

Voting begins today, Tuesday 1 November, at local libraries and bookshops, or online at www.abc.net.au/yearofreading.

The eight winning books will be announced at the launch of the National Year of Reading on 14 February next year.

The National Year of Reading is an initiative of Australia’s libraries and encourages readers to journey around the country through the pages of the eight books and emerge with a greater depth of understanding about what it means to be Australian.
