Bursaries enable vision-impaired students to reach their goals

Two vision-impaired students from Charles Darwin University have received bursaries to assist them achieve their educational and life goals.

Michelle Johnson and Aja Whelan received Further Education Bursaries from Vision Australia at an awards ceremony in late May.

The Vision Australia bursaries aim to assist students who would not otherwise be able to buy adaptive technology, limiting their participation in further education.

Michelle, who graduated from CDU’s Tertiary Enabling Program, is now enrolled in the Bachelor of Welfare Studies, while Aja is studying for a Bachelor of Creative Arts and Industries (Music).

CDU’s student facilitator (disabilities), Kerrie Coulter said the pair were delighted with the news of their bursaries and acknowledged the great work of Vision Australia.

“Vision Australia is the leading provider of blindness and low-vision services in Australia, enabling tens of thousands of children and adults to live the lives they choose,” she said.
