CDU students work with Brad Pitt for global change

Charles Darwin University (CDU) students Maria Kambouris and Kevin Kadirgamar will give a public seminar, entitled ”Bringing back from New Orleans”, about their experiences at the inaugural Clinton Global Initiative University (CGIU) meeting.

Maria and Kevin represented CDU, one of only three universities Australia-wide to be represented at the meeting.

Maria is a graduate of CDU’s Bachelor of Social Work and Kevin is in the second year of a double degree in Law and Business.

The seminar will focus on the students’ experiences at the meeting, highlighting community work with celebrity Brad Pitt and former United States President Bill Clinton.

The CGIU meeting was held at Tulane University, New Orleans last month, focusing on CGI’s four main areas: energy and climate change, global health, human rights and peace, and poverty alleviation.

Maria and Kevin’s input and expertise in the area of global health, in particular, was critical to the forum.

The students are active participants in community work in the Territory, and at their presentation they will discuss their future commitments to local projects, as well as how university students are serving their communities in other countries.

Their talk is free to the public and will be held on Wednesday April 30 from 12noon to 1pm in Building Blue 1.1.01 (Lecture Theatre 22.01) at CDU’s Casuarina campus.

The seminar will be followed by an informal student networking session to discuss formation of CDU’s first Student-Community Network.
