Charles Darwin University VET lecturer, Susan Bandias has received a rare honour in being elected a Fellow of the Australian Computer Society (ACS).

Susan (pictured) currently is the only ACS Fellow in the Northern Territory and one of fewer than 200 female ACS Fellows nation wide.

The ACS was founded in 1966 and is the recognised association for Information and Communications Technology (ICT) professionals.

The ACS is the guardian of professional ethics and standards in the ICT industry, with a commitment to the wider community to ensure the beneficial use of ICT.

Susan’s election recognised her “distinguished contribution to the field of information and communication technology…in her roles as an academic in regional and remote areas, particularly in the Northern Territory, and as an active champion of women and youth in IT”.

She is an active member of the NT branch of the ACS and has been a member of the branch executive for the past 10 years. She also is branch secretary, the NT representative on the national Women in IT Board, and has 17 years experience in publishing and grant funding in the areas of business, telecommunications and IT education.

Susan currently is working with Professor Leoni Warne on a national research project examining the issue of gender equity in the ICT sector.
