To each his own: Perceptions of Aboriginal art and photography

'Self Portrait', 2004, Gary Lee

Larrakia artist and anthropologist Gary Lee will discuss aspects of his doctoral photographic research and art practice during a free public seminar on Thursday July 26 at the Casuarina campus.

He will consider the issues raised by his portraits, such as definitions of Aboriginal arts, representing the ‘other’, and assumptions held about Aboriginal artists.

The one-hour seminar will begin at 12 noon in the seminar room of Building 30, the School of Australian Indigenous Knowledge Systems. This seminar is conducted by the Indigenous Academic Support Unit, PVC Community and Access. For information contact Cynthia Coyne (Indigenous Academic Support Lecturer) on 8946 6339 or cynthia.coyne@cdu.edu.au. Warning: some of the images to be presented in the seminar contain nudity.
