David Barker, part-time lecturer at Charles Darwin University (CDU) recently represented CDU and the Northern Territory in the 2007 La-Coupe Down Under Artisan Baking Cup held in Melbourne on June 24-27.

David was awarded second place, from twelve of Australia’s best professional bakers, who represented all of the states in Australia.

This second place will allow David an opportunity to be part of the Australian Baking Team, who will compete against the rest of the world in the Coupe du Monde de la Boulangerie Bakery (Bakery World Cup) in France.

David said throughout his career he has implemented traditional baking skills handed down by his peers, teachers and masters.

‘The competition has allowed me to expand on my bakery knowledge and to learn new skills such as Artisan Baking,’ David said.

‘I was very proud to represent CDU and the baking industry in the Northern Territory in the competition.’

The 2007 La-Coupe “Down Under” Artisan Baking Cup saw competitors spend four days making products including baguettes, sour dough’s, specialty breads and breads representing their State or Territory.
