Staff from Charles Darwin University’s (CDU) Nhulunbuy Campus enjoyed themselves and promoted the University by sponsoring and participating in the GoCroc Gove Beach Volleyball Day in June.

Held annually in Nhulunbuy, the major community event raised money for local charities and sporting bodies. CDU staff were eager participants along with major sponsor Alcan and local businesses.

Ten volleyball courts were set up along the beach and with over 42 teams it was a large-scale sporting event.

Sarah Hanks, coordination officer for CDU Nhulunbuy said the event was an excellent way for the University to link in with the local community.

‘It brings together all sectors of the local community and is great value for us to be involved,’ she said.

CDU provided financial sponsorship and sunscreen and fielded many enquiries from potential students.

‘It’s invaluable for CDU, enabling us to stay in touch with the local community, show we take an interest and find out what their needs are,’ she said.

Paul Fitzsimons, Director of Remote Coordination, congratulated the CDU team for their efforts on the day.

‘Sarah Hanks and Karen Cole made a big effort to represent CDU at GoCroc and I congratulate them for their hard work,’ he said.
