Fine dining charity dinner at Karawa Restaurant

Lovers of fine cuisine and music will be helping charity when they dine at the Karawa Training Restaurant on the Palmerston Campus of Charles Darwin University next month.

The evening will offer a unique experience of the marriage between fine cuisine and specially selected beverages with entertainment which will enhance the dining experience.

Cookery students will showcase their culinary skills and flair for food in creating the gourmet menu for a charity dinner to aid Autism NT on May 24.

The five-course set meal will be prepared in the training kitchens under the supervision of cookery lecturer Jason Wilkes and served by the hospitality students in the training restaurant. Also featured are selected fine wines to give guests an appreciation of complementing or contrasting flavours.

Tickets are $60 per person, including beverages. The evening will raise funds for Autism NT, whose patron His Honour Mr Ted Egan, Administrator of the Northern Territory, and Ms Evans will be in attendance.

Diners will also be entertained during the evening with live music from emerging singer-songwriter Leah Flanagan and her band, as well as established Darwin band Roy MacKonkey, who will play an acoustic set.

There will be further entertainment in the form of an auction of donated goods and products, whose sale will also benefit Autism NT.

Hospitality lecturer Oliver Budack says the charity dinner is designed to become an annual event to assist with funding for a selected charity and to allow the cookery and hospitality students to demonstrate their skills and participate in a unique event.

‘The idea is to make this event absolutely spectacular,’ says Mr Budack. ‘Gourmet food and beverages, paired with music, should offer a remarkable evening. It will be an evening of culinary pleasures, support for Autism NT and an opportunity to hear talented Darwin musicians performing original music.’

The School of Tourism and Hospitality looks forward to illustrating the skills and training of students enrolled in Hospitality courses who graduate from Charles Darwin University work-ready and excited about their chosen profession.

Tickets are available through Palmerston Campus.
