Charles Darwin University (CDU) Chancellor Richard Ryan and Vice Chancellor Professor Helen Garnett recently visited Tennant Creek to improve their understanding of the unique learning needs of the community.

‘The visit is about learning, progressing and finding out what is happening across the Territory,’ said Professor Garnett. ‘We met many people with an interest in education and learnt about many interesting success stories.’

Professor Garnett and Mr Ryan met High School Principal, Meg Iles to discuss the programs which the two institutions run in collaboration.

‘We discussed a range of partnerships and programs and now have some good ideas about how to extend them and introduce further training such as civil construction.’ Professor Garnett said.

She also expressed interest in the possibility of a joint venture offering training in the operation of heavy machinery and mining equipment to Pekoe Rehabilitation.

Kate Young, Centre Leader, Tennant Creek campus said the visit was a chance to showcase the training outcomes and achievements in Tennant Creek.

‘And it’s an opportunity for locals to provide feedback to the Vice Chancellor.’
