Mr Anthony Smith, the new Director of Corporate Communications and Chief Marketing Officer at Charles Darwin University, took up his appointment last week (8 January).

CDU’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Helen Garnett, said she was delighted Anthony had made the move from being the Associate Director (marketing) at the University of Southern Queensland in Toowoomba to take up his new post at CDU.

'Mr Smith has substantial skills and expertise in communications, particularly marketing, with a Bachelor of Business (Marketing) degree from the University of Southern Queensland and diplomas in export management and market research. This experience will be very valuable to CDU'.

As well as Associate Director (Marketing) at USQ, Mr Smith was also brand manager, where he was responsible for developing new marketing strategies for the university’s eight disciplines.

Before joining USQ, Mr Smith spent five years as marketing manager at the University of Queensland’s Gatton campus.

He brings a strong background in marketing and brand management to his role at CDU, where he plans to build on the work currently being undertaken to position CDU as a leader in research and teaching across the higher education and VTE spectrum.

'I am looking forward to working with the staff of CDU to build on the University’s strengths and increase public recognition of the University’s role as a leading teaching and research institution with a distinctive approach to the challenges of the Territory,' Mr Smith said.
