Time for Desert Rose to bloom

It will be crunch time for a team of engineers involved in the CDU Desert Rose project this Friday when judging takes place for the Engineering Excellence Awards. The successful Desert Rose is entered in this year’s Excellence Awards and will compete against ten other major projects for the top prize.

The excellence awards are judged by an independent panel of Northern Territory members, with the objective of the awards being to bring recognition to organisations that have made a significant contribution in the last year.

The foundations for the Desert Rose project were laid by Professor Deans Patterson in 1985 and through the efforts of Professor Patterson and his teams the project has realised the development of technology that influences the lives of people throughout the world.

The technology developed by the Charles Darwin University’s research arm now finds itself in applications beyond all expectations.

Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering and Project Leader, Lawrence Stubbs, said: “The Desert Rose project promoted and demonstrates sustainable technology, with an emphasis on engineering excellence, participation and resourcefulness. This entry showcases 20 years of world class engineering achievements and innovation and recognises the outstanding contributions made by the project to the wider community.”
