Graduate Recruitment Fair 2006

Employers embraced Charles Darwin University’s (CDU) 2006 Graduate Recruitment Fair in a bid to enhance the number of quality candidates they are employing within their companies.

Over 30 employers exhibited at CDU’s Casuarina Campus, ranging from Northern Territory and Australian government agencies to private enterprise, community service agencies and professional associations.

CDU’s coordinator for Careers and Student Recruitment, Adelia Mu-Prasad, said the high level of participation reflected the current competitive state of the employment market.

“It’s not surprising that so many employers wanted to be a part of the event—good quality candidates are becoming increasingly difficult to attract due to the increasing need for graduates overall, but especially in such disciplines as engineering, business, education and IT,” said Ms Mu-Prasad.

“Employers were looking for students and graduates from both the vocational and technical education (VTE) and higher education sectors with opportunities ranging from apprenticeships to graduate recruitment programs."

Ms Mu-Prasad said the event was also a great way to keep local graduates working for the benefit of the NT.

“Retaining local graduates to work in the Territory is obviously a good thing for the Territory’s economy and because they are already settled here and are familiar with the issues here, their transition to work will be that much easier,” she said.
