Yulara Centre increasing its student numbers 

 
 

Yulara Centre’s student numbers has recently increased with 35 students enrolled in hospitality certificate’s II – IV, including staff enrolled as apprentices.

As part of Yulara ‘Voyages’ training agreement Nick de Silva, lecturer in hospitality, conducted training at Voyages King Canyon Resort where the number of students and trainees has also increased. Currently there are nine students enrolled in certificate’s II – IV in hospitality with three staff members being enrolled as apprentices.

Apart from these enrolments Nick has also conducted training for other staff members in Responsible Service of Alcohol, Wine training, Customer Relations and Food and Beverage training, with an average of 50 staff members per month completing the Responsible Service of Alcohol course alone, which is a compulsory component of being employed at Voyages Yulara and Kings Canyon.

Ingolf Eigenwillig, lecturer in food studies, has also visited Yulara to conduct assessments on his cookery apprentices. There are currently ten apprentices at different stages of their three year apprenticeship.

Lecturer Sue Tucker has been in contact with her tourism, meetings and events and Certificate IV in Training and Assessment students in preparation for workshops in early July.

Judy Bell, coordinator/lecturer of business and retail courses is also busy with students who are enrolled in various courses in these two areas. The most popular being the Certificate IV in Business (Human Resources).

Flyers have been distributed throughout the resort and Uluru Kata-Tjuta National Park advertising horticulture lecturer Jade Kudrenko’s Central Australian Native Plant and Bush Tucker workshop to be conducted in early July. The response has been excellent with the majority of staff coming from interstate and very interested in the local plants and bush tucker.

Automotive lecturer Tony Harding is currently delivering training to nine Indigenous students from the Mutitjulu and Imanpa communities.
James Gorrie, lecturer from Darwin, visited Yulara in early June to deliver Smart Train.

Casual IT lecturer Alan Arthur has been delivering a basic computer course, Operate a personal computer, on Wednesday nights from 6.00pm to 8.30pm, since late May to ten students.
