Barkly students receive awards 

 
 


Students from Tennant Creek’s Papulu Apparr-Kari Aboriginal Corporation (Language Centre) had their achievements honoured at an awards ceremony on Thursday 15 December at the CDU Tennant Creek Centre.

Charles Darwin University’s Remote VET Field Officer Andrew Gaff presented Certificate I in Engineering to six students and a further10 received Statements of Attainment. 

The students intend to continue their studies in 2006, hoping to complete either a Certificate I or Certificate II in Engineering.

The training delivered in 2005 was supported by DEET and the Language Centre and included a number of blocks throughout the year and a two-week stint at the Katherine Rural College.

At the ceremony, CDU’s Tennant Creek Centre Leader Kate Young presented three students with a Certificate II in Multimedia and two students with a Certificate III in Business.

She also presented Statements of Attainment to students who had completed bobcat and chainsaw training.

During the year, Barkly students also participated in Driver Education, with a number gaining C or LR licences and a group undertaking a successful Drink Driver course.

Papulu Apparr-Kari CEO Karan Hayward said: “We support training for all of our employees and look forward to a continuing partnership with CDU in the new year.”
